Weather: The rain held off till noon...but winds were E or ENE and VERY strong for the entire counjt period. The count continued despite the light drizzle...cloud cover was solid for the entire time. Unfortunately, the big low is continuing to push into the Great Lakes region with a lot of rain for overnight and into Thursday. Raptor Observations: The total count for the day of 1,570 was much better than expected, especially given the rain moving in. The bulk of the count was TV's (1,374)..along with Sharpies (110), Harriers (30), Redtails (21), Osprey (1), Cooper's (18), Red-shoulder (1), Godlen Eagle (1), Kestrels (11), Merlins (3) and a single Peregrine headed directly south...possibly making a straight flight across to the states. With such a strong tail wind the Harriers were streaking past like we normally see the falcons doing...while the Sharpies wre going through sideways! Non-raptor Observations: A few flocks of geese, literally 1000's of Am. Crows on the move today...a Pileated Woodpecker, several Am. Pipits, at least 10 N. Flickers, Killdeer, Am. Robins, Blue Jays, flocks of Redwinged BB and 4 Common Loons headed out over the lake. Predictions: Thursday is looking very wet....but it will depend on the spread of rain whether any birds are on the move.
