Weather: Overcast and drizzly during the morning hours, the rain began in earnest around 1 pm. Raptor Observations: There wasn't much on the move. The first bird of the day, an adult male northern harrier, proved to be the highlight. Non-raptor Observations: A common loon was observed flying overhead during the 11 o'clock hour. Red-winged and rusty blackbirds continue to pass over with a few common grackles mixed in. A large flock of yellow-rumped warblers and a small flock of dark-eyed juncos could be found foraging in the trees by the count site. Hermit thrushes were reportedly abundant along the trails. Predictions: As of now, conditions look favorable tomorrow with partly cloudy skies and moderate winds out of the west-northwest. Only a slight (10 percent) chance of precipitation. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
