At about 4:30 PM an Aechmophorus grebe was seen on the Ottawa River about 1km downstream from the Deschennes Rapids. The bird was seen from the Deschennes boat ramp. It swam across the river from the Quebec side to the Ontario side. We watched the bird until it was too dark to see, during that time is swam steadily for about ten minutes, then started to dive frequently. Note that the bird was first seen, in flight, by Jean Dubois mid morning. It may well remain in the area, I would suggest checking from the various vantage points between the Britannia Filtration Plant and the Champlain Bridge. There are many Red-necked Grebe (20+) and Horned Grebe (20+) also at least 2 RT Loon remain along this stretch of river. And of course, the Razorbill, which was still present at dusk.
