Hi Ontbirders, There was a flock of about 200 or 300 Snow Geese near the Moodie Drive quarry pond this morning around 10:00. When I first saw them they were circling over the northwest field at the intersection of Barnsdale and Moodie. They then flew over the road and landed in the quarry pond where they eventually disappeared behind the spit directly across the gate. About five minutes later they flew off again, heading north. I couldn't relocate them. They may have circled back to the quarry or flew off to one of the nearby fields.
There are still lots of Ruddy Ducks and a few Ring-necked Ducks at the quarry. To get to the quarry ponds, take Highway 416 to exit 66 (Fallowfield Road) and head west along Fallowfield. Turn left at the first set of lights onto Moodie Drive and go 5.3 km, passing Cambrian Road to reach the quarry which is located at the second gate on the left. Most of the pond can be easily viewed from the gate (except for the area behind the spit). As the quarry pond is private property, please do not cross the fence. Barnsdale Road is just south of the quarry ponds.
