Good afternoon Ontbirders,
This morning I found a Ross's Goose along Front Rd. just north of the Hahn Marsh just west of Long Point associating with about 30 Snow Geese. It was still present at 1400 this afternoon. The geese have been found with between 1,000 and 3,000 Tundra Swans and other assorted waterfowl usually somewhere along front Rd. between Port Rowan and Clear Creek. There are also close to 200 Sandhill Cranes in the same fields. Thousands of waterfowl can still be found on the Inner Bay of Long Point best viewed from the Bird Studies Canada headquarters in Port Rowan, the Big Creek National Wildlife Area, or the viewing platform near Sandboy Marina on the causeway. As many as 25 Little Gulls have also been observed in the area lately. The most reliable location is Turkey Point, but large numbers have been observed on the Inner Bay and on Lake Erie viewed from Hastings Drive. A Nashville Warbler was found at the feeders of the Long Point Bird Observatory's (LPBO) Old Cut Field Station on November 23 and has been observed daily since. White-winged Crossbills have also been observed here on most days. The LPBO sightings board was recently updated with the last installment of the season with photos of some highlights - www.birdscanada.org/longpoint Please send all your noteworthy sightings to [email protected] or share them with LPBO through E-bird www.ebird.ca username: Long Point.
