Hello again Ontbirders,

On the way home tonight, Dad and I stopped to check out a field full of
Canada Geese and we saw a Canada Goose x Snow Goose hybrid. There were
about 4000 Canada Geese and at least 1 Cackling Goose in the field - an
alfalfa field along Galetta Side Road south of Carp Road. At dusk the birds
all flew to Buckham's Bay to roost. There have been modest numbers of
Cackling Geese in the Constance Bay/Buckham's Bay area over the last week
to 10 days (up to 5 at a time). Bald Eagle numbers are also building now if
you come over for a look around. There are usually up to about a dozen in
this area just before freeze up.

Lake Dore was also still very good today. We stopped in at about 2:00 pm
after looking at the Rufous Hummingbird (Lake Dore is only about 10 minutes
from Eganville). There were 15 Horned Grebes, 3 Red-necked Grebes, Glaucous
Gull, Iceland Gulls, Bonaparte's Gulls, a first winter Thayer's Gull, a
first winter Lesser Black-backed Gull and a Surf Scoter amongst the more
regular birds. We observed the lake from Point Church Drive north of Mink
Lake Road.

Both Buckhams and Constance Bay are best viewed from within Constance Bay.
Constance Bay is off Dunrobin Road (W of Kanata). Follow Constance Bay
drive. Turn left onto Allbirch and then left onto Bayview to get to
Buckham's Bay. There are several public access points. Continue following
Bayview and you circle around past Constance Bay ultimately ending up back
where you started.

Good birding.

Jeff
