Yesterday a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher was refound by Martin Daly along the waterfront trail near the high level bridge in Hamilton. The bird was seen by myself at about 3:15 yesterday with a group of chickadees around a set of three benches near the 2000m mark of the trail which is on the harbour side of the high level bridge on this trail. The trail is accessed from Princess Point in Hamilton which is located at the end of Longwood or Macklin Ave in Hamilton north of King Street and just west of the 403 in west Hamilton. This trail can also be accessed at Bayfront Park in Hamilton but it is a longer walk down to this location.
When you get to the very bottom of the hill where Princess Point is, you will notice a sign on the right hand side for the Desjardins Recreation Trail right at the bottom of the hill. YOU MUST PAY FOR PARKING, as it is an RBG property and people have been ticketed for not paying. The parking meter is located in the main lot but its best to pay at the meter and then come back and park near the trail which is near the entrance to the park. Take the trail for about a kilometer noting the distance markers on the sidewalk. At the 2000m mark there is a yellow sign on the side. It is just on the far side of the high level bridge as you walk from Princess Point. Cheers, Cheryl Edgecombe Directions: Princess Point is located at the north end of Longwood Ave or Macklin Ave in west Hamilton. This is north of King Street and just west of the 403. From the 403 westbound coming from Burlington you can exit at Main St. West then at the lights at the end of the ramp turn right and go along Main St. to Longwood, turn left and follow it to the end. I have included a google map link as it is accessed from a couple of different ways depending on which direction you are coming from. http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=Princess+Point,+Hamilton,+Ontario <http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=Princess+Point,+Hamilton,+Ontario&hl=en&ll=43. 262769,-79.89481&spn=0.046628,0.07699&sll=49.891235,-97.15369&sspn=42.515652 ,78.837891&vpsrc=6&hq=Princess+Point,+Hamilton,+Ontario&t=m&z=14> &hl=en&ll=43.262769,-79.89481&spn=0.046628,0.07699&sll=49.891235,-97.15369&s spn=42.515652,78.837891&vpsrc=6&hq=Princess+Point,+Hamilton,+Ontario&t=m&z=1 4 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
