Hello Birders, The Bruce Peninsula National Park (Tobermory) Christmas Bird Count was held today (December 14). It was the warmest day I can remember for the count, with drizzle throughout the afternoon and no snow on the ground. Thanks to the 20 observers who helped to make the count a success!
The total number of species was 47, which is above average for recent years. Highlights (including irruptive finch species) were: Harris Sparrow (1) at a feeder in downtown Tobermory (new for count) Swamp Sparrow (1) Tobermory sewage ponds (new for count) Barred Owl (1) - Johnson's Harbour area (new for count) Bald Eagle (8) Great Black-backed Gull (19) Red-bellied Woodpecker (1) Northern Shrike (2) White-winged Crossbill (3) Common Redpoll (18) Pine Siskin (8) American Goldfinch (249) Full results will be posted to the Audubon/CBC website soon. Happy birding over the holidays!
