The eighth annual Saugeen Shores Christmas Bird Count was held on Wednesday,
January 4, 2011.  Thirty-four people participated on a lovely, but cloudy,
winter day which started with a brisk on-shore wind and -5C weather and ended
with a temperature of 3C.

Open water along Lake Huron resulted in a number of highs:  Canada Goose -
1905; Mute Swan 10; Common Merganser - 156; Red-necked Grebe - 3.  Other highs
included Golden-crowned Kinglet - 14; Cedar Waxwing - 114; and American
Goldfinch - 922.

Of particular note were 15 Snowy Owls and 1 Belted Kingfisher.

Thank you to all the Area Leaders and to the Counters.  Their commitment and
keen eyes were appreciated.  Thanks as well to MacGregor Point Provincial Park
and the Friends of MacGregor Point for their support of this count.

We ended the day with a new count high of 59 species.

A full report will be posted on the Friends of MacGregor Point website.
