The MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was observed and photographed this morning at 9:30
where it was first seen, about a km. before Ducks Dive. At the very tip of
Prince Edward Point right across from the banding station there was a pair of
HARLEQUIN DUCKS very close to shore. CEDAR WAXWINGS and AMERICAN ROBINS were
in the hundreds but I could not find a Bohemian Waxwing. Other notable
sightings were 2 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 1 MERLIN, 3 NORTHERN SHRIKES, 2 COMMON
RAVENS, 5 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and 7 PURPLE FINCHES. Along Rock Crossroad in
Waupoos there was 1 immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK and 2 NORTHERN FLICKERS. A
couple of HORNED LARKS were heard singing in the open fields, at least 3 BALD
EAGLES were at the Glenora Ferry and the long-staying SNOWY OWL is still in
Millhaven across from the Millhaven Inn. A River Otter was feasting on a meal
on South Bay.

Cheers
Bruce

Directions from Mike Burge
To reach Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area, take Main Street from the
east end of downtown Picton, down the "Town Hill", and turn immediately right
onto Union Street (directly across from Tip of the Bay Motel). Follow Union
Street out of Picton (becomes County Road 8) for 2.5 km, and at the junction in
the highway, follow County Road 17. Take County Road 17 for 6.5 km and look for
the Black River Cheese sign, and turn left onto County Road 16 and follow for 1
km to the Stop sign at County Road 13. Follow County Road 13 past Black River
Cheese for 23.6 km to the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area (County
Road 13 eventually becomes Long Point Road). Follow the Long Point Road until
you see Ducks Dive Charters.
