The adult male VARIED THRUSH was last reported on February 11th at the feeders
on Calypso road east of Ottawa (east of Limoges). The Eardley Masham Road
continues to be excellent for winter finches and eagles. An EASTERN MEADOWLARK,
rarely found in this area in the winter, was seen at feeders at the south end
of Forced Road near Russell on February 10th and 11th. This bird may still be
present. 9 GRAY PARTRIDGE are being seen almost every day since February 10th
from Campeau Road in Kanata.
Some of the most interesting lingering birds have been;
- the number of AMERICAN ROBINS in the Ottawa/Gatineau area seems to be
significantly reduced however a flock of 45 were seen in Ottawa east
- the CAROLINA WREN continues to be seen and heard along the fence line on the
west side of the Britannia Conservation area
- PEREGRINE FALCONS have been seen at a number of locations in Ottawa. On the
island south east of Bate Island, on the south side of the high rise on the
north east corner of Baseline and Pinecrest and on the Coates building in
Tunney's Pasture
- the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD continues on Grandview
- the NORTHERN PINTAIL continues in Manotick
- the RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER has not been seen in Packenham since January 24th
- a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was seen on O'Hare (near Dunrobin Road and Kerwin
road) on February 14th. Residents report that this bird had been seen for about
4 days but it has not been reported since
- a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen in an Ottawa back yard on February 14th
- a male GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen from March Valley road on the creek south
of Klondike on February 14th
- a GRAY CATBIRD has been seen in a back yard of a house on Bourgeau Street in
Aylmer since mid November. Permission to access the property is required
The Eardley Masham Road in Quebec continues to be very active. RED CROSSBILLS,
PINE SISKINS, PURPLE FINCHES, COMMON REDPOLLS and RUFFED GROUSE are regularly
being seen. BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were not reported this week.
Some of the more interesting seasonal birds have been;
- BALD EAGLES at several locations on the Eardley Masham Road and along the
Steele line in Quebec
- BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS continue to be present all over the Ottawa/Gatineau area
- small numbers of CEDAR WAXWINGS were seen at a few locations
- SHARP-SHINNED and COOPER'S HAWKS were seen at a few locations
- GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from Therrien road (just east of the Eardley Masham
road), from the bottom of the Eardley Masham road and from Steele Line
- BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were not reported this week but probably continue on the
Rideau and Ottawa rivers
- a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on February 10th at Lac Brown in Gatineau
Park
- "type 3" small billed RED CROSSBILLS were seen and heard on the Eardley
Masham road on February 12th
