Quebec Compiler & transcriber: Bob Cermak [email protected] or [email protected] An adult CALIFORNIA GULL was seen on the road into the Lafleche dump outside the OFNC area east of Casselman on February 28th. The adult male VARIED THRUSH was last reported at 988 Calypso on February 28th. The GRAY PARTRIDGE continue from Campeau Road in Kanata. Mixed flocks of BOHEMIAN and CEDAR WAXWINGS and large flocks of AMERICAN ROBINS are being seen all over the Ottawa/Gatineau area. Some of the most interesting lingering birds have been; - large flocks of AMERICAN ROBINS are being seen all over the Ottawa/Gatineau area - the CAROLINA WREN continues to be seen and heard along the fence line on the west side of the Britannia Conservation area - the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD continues on Grandview Small numbers of RING-BILLED GULLS have returned and single BUFFLEHEAD and TURKEY VULTURE were reported. Some of the more interesting birds have been; - BALD EAGLES at several locations on the Eardley Masham Road, from the end of Therrien Road and along the Steele line in Quebec - two adult GOLDEN EAGLES were seen from the Eardley Masham road at Ramsey Lake - a "female type" BUFFLEHEAD was reported at the Remic Rapids on the Ottawa river on February 28th - a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen from Riddell Road on February 26th - BARROW'S GOLDENEYE continue to be reported, a male was seen NW of Bates Island on the Ottawa river on February on February 28th - On February 28th from the Lafleche dump road there were 1 adult CALIFORNIA, 27+ GLAUCOUS, 20+ ICELAND, 2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED, 1 RING-BILLED, 200+ GREAT BLACK-BACKED and 1000+ HERRING GULLS between 10 and 11:30 a.m. - a very early (but not record early) TURKEY VULTURE was seen from hwy 417 near the Carp Road exit on February 29th Thank you for your bird observations, Good Birding _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
