Early spring migrants are arriving. 
Birds seen at the flooded areas on Milton Road, Frank Kenny Road at the bridge 
and/or the area east of Bourget are; WOOD DUCKS, HOODED MERGANSERS,  
BUFFLEHEAD, NORTHERN HARRIER, RING-NECKED DUCKS, KILLDEER, NORTHERN PINTAILS, 
SANDHILL CRANES, AMERICAN WIDGEON, GREEN-WINGED TEAL and many thousands of 
CANADA GEESE. The VARIED THRUSH continues on Calipso Road. Other arrivals are 
RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, many COMMON GRACKLES, SONG SPARROWS, TURKEY VULTURES, and 
COWBIRDS.   
 
Some of the more interesting birds have been;
- the CAROLINA WREN continues along the fence line on the west side of the 
Britannia Conservation area
- the male VARIED THRUSH continues at 988 Calypso Road
- 3 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen March 14th on the Clyde river outside Lanark on 
Rosetta Road (outside the OFNC area)  
- small flocks of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS continue to be reported 
- NORTHERN SHRIKE continue to be seen at many locations
- the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD continues near 239 Grandview 
- male and female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were reported on the Rideau river March 8th
- 8 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen from the Carp Road in Stittsville on March 9th
- a male WOOD DUCK was seen at the Frank Kenny bridge on March 9th
- 8 COMMON and 8 HOODED MERGANSERS were seen on the Rideau river between 
Montreal Road and the Hurdman (417) bridge on March 9th
- a TURKEY VULTURE was seen on route 200 east of Boundary Road on March 10th
- the Steele Line in Quebec continues to be active. Seen on March 11th were 6-8 
BALD and 2 GOLDEN (1 adult and 1 imm.) EAGLES, 1 TURKEY VULTURE, 1 NORTHERN 
HARRIER, 60 WILD TURKEYS, 5 RED CROSSBILLS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, RED-WINGED 
BLACKBIRDS and COMMON GRACKLES
- ROUGH-LEGGED, RED-TAILED, COOPER'S hawks, NORTHERN HARRIERS, KESTRELS and 
BALD EAGLES were reported at many locations
- on March 13th a male BLACK-BACKED WP and 2 GOLDEN EAGLES were seen near 721 
Clarence Cambridge road (Larose forest)
- 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen March 13th east of Bourget at Russell road and 
Johnson road
