Early spring migrants continue to arrive. The flooded areas on Milton Road, 
Frank Kenny Road and Cobb's Creek Lake east of Bourget contained many waterfowl 
however the flood water is rapidly receding. A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, seen on 
March 21st and refound on March 23rd, was the first spring record for Ottawa 
and a record early for a DOWITCHER in Ontario. This bird was seen from the west 
side of Frank Kenny Road (south of the bridge and guard rails where there is a 
gravel entrance to the corn field) on the mud on the east bank of Bearbrook 
Creek about 400 meters west of Frank Kenny Road.  

Some of the more interesting birds have been;
- March 15th - a lingering COMMON REDPOLL was seen at a feeder in Rockcliffe 
and 2 LESSER SCAUP were seen from Bate Island
- March 17th - 70+ CEDAR and 1 BOHEMIAN WAXWING were seen near Westboro Beach
                   - 2 adult TRUMPETER SWANS were seen again this year on the 
Jock river at 9th Line south east of Carleton Place
                   - a GREAT BLUE HERON was seen on March Valley Road about 2 
Km east of Riddell
                   - 5 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 7 LESSER SCAUP were seen on the 
Ottawa River below the Des Chenes Rapids
                   - a pair of WOOD DUCKS were seen at the Britannia 
Conservation Area Mud Lake
                   - the spring flood waters at Milton Road, Frank Kenny Road 
and the Cobb's Creek area east of Bourget produced
                     many NORTHERN PINTAILS and a few RING-NECKED DUCKS and 
AMERICAN WIDGEON, 6 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and 6
                     SNOW GEESE
- March 18th - 1 EASTERN BLUEBIRD on Greenland at Vance's Side Road and 1 
EASTERN MEADOWLARK on 6th Line just off Riddell
                   - 3 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS from Ridge Road
                   - 2 TUNDRA SWANS (1 adult and 1 imm.) on Milton Road and 1 
ROSS'S GOOSE on Bearbrook Creek at Frank Kenny
                   - 50+ LESSER SCAUP and 4 BUFFLEHEAD on the Ottawa River 
between the Des Chenes rapid and the Champlain bridge
                   - 2 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS on Kettles Road and another on 
Fallowfield near Connley Road
                   - a TURKEY VULTURE, 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS and 5 RED-SHOULDERED 
HAWKS were seen in the Dunrobin area
                   - a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and a CACKLING GOOSE were 
seen on the Ottawa River in Constance Bay
                   - a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen fighting a STARLING 
for a bird house at the west end of High Road
- March 19th - a PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen on Bearbrook Creek at Frank Kenny 
and 6 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Milton Road
                   - a WINTER WREN was seen on the Jack Pine trail
- March 20th - a very early CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in Constance Bay
                   - an EURASIAN TEAL was seen from the Quebec side of the 
Ottawa River above the Des Chenes rapids
                   - EASTERN PHOEBES were seen and heard at many locations all 
week
- March 21st - a ROSS'S GOOSE, 2 SNOW GEESE and a CACKLING GOOSE were seen on 
the flooded Carp river south of Carp
                   - 1 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and a PIED-BILLED GREBE were 
seen on Bearbrook Creek at Frank Kenny
                   - 19 SANDHILL CRANES were seen from Milton road
                   - a NORTHERN FLICKER and a MERLIN were seen in Bell's Corners
- March 22nd - FOX SPARROWS were seen in a few locations
                    - 2500+ SNOW GEESE were seen from Russell Road on Cobb's 
Lake and 6000+ were also seen there on March 23rd
                    - at the same location 1 EURASIAN WIDGEON, many NORTHERN 
PINTAILS, some AMERICAN WIDGEONS, 2 GADWALLS, an
                      adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 1 imm. THAYER'S GULL and 
2 adult TUNDRA SWANS were seen
                    - 3 TURKEY VULTURES, a WILSON"S SNIPE and a GREAT BLUE 
HERON were seen at various locations
