Dear Ontbirds subscribers, I have been asked to post info regarding obtaining entry permits for the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons. (Our Ontbirds co-ordinator has approved this message).
There are a number of methods to obtain the permit. I do not send out permits (!), so please use one of the following methods: 1) By Email: Send your name; address; phone #; and request to Candy McGuigan at: candymATchatham-kentDOTca She will email your permit. Print it off, sign, and keep with you. [She asks that you mention if this is a renewal permit] 2) In Person: Visit the Municipal Service Centre downtown Blenheim 8am---5pm, Mon.--Fri. 35 Talbot St. West [in the Post Office building ] 3) By Mail: Blenheim Municipal Service Centre P.O.Box 2128, Blenheim,On., N0P 1A0 4) By Fax or Phone: ---------------------------------------------------------- Fax : 519-676-0244 ---------------------------------------------------------- Phone : 519-676-5405 DIRECTIONS TO THE LAGOON SITE: Blenheim is on #3 Hwy [Talbot Rd. ] in Chatham-Kent. LOCK gate when leaving! This is a privilege so please be respectful. Recent sightings: Water levels are extremely high. The sprinkler cells near the north building are working and will attract shorebirds. Lots of ducks have been present such as large numbers of Ring-necked and Bufflehead. Other species are present as well. On the weekend some yellowlegs and Dunlin were in the sprinklers. A Snowy Owl was in the field behind the lagoon site yesterday. About 800 Bonaparte's Gulls were present yesterday. Nearby at Rondeau Park things are showing up as expected. On Saturday we found a Louisiana Waterthrush on Spicebush Trail. Some newly-arrived Yellow-rumped Warblers were present yesterday among other common species. Please use the sighting book near the gate to record you significant sightings! Others will appreciate to know what is around. Good birding everyone, Blake A.
