Hello Ontbirders: On Saturday, May 26th at 1:00pm, the family and friends of my late father Don Shanahan will be hosting a celebration of his life. Though Dad passed away on January 17th, he requested that a light-spirited celebration be held at the family home in Brighton some time in May- his favourite month and the peak season of northbound bird migration. For over two decades, he birded throughout Ontario, but mainly at home-town Presqu'ile and never more so than in May.
Stories and songs will be shared at 2:00pm and "doors will open" at 1:00pm. The formal part of the day will likely last 60-90 minutes and then all are welcome to stay around to share stories and memories for the rest of the afternoon. As a family, we are trying to reach as many potential well-wishers as possible, but we will surely miss a few inadvertently; as a result, don't hesitate to spread the word to well-wishers we may have overlooked. All may attend whether they receive a direct invite or not; we just ask that any who intend on going RSVP by May 15th as we are catering the event with basic refreshments. The easiest way to RSVP is to send me an E-mail at this address. The family home is a big, old red brick house at the corner of Kingsley Ave. and Dorman St. immediately northeast of downtown Brighton and just south south of Highway 401 exit 509. The street address is 33 Kingsley Ave. Family and close friends are looking forward to sharing this special day with others whose lives were positively touched by Dad. As always, good birding!
