*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: Saturday May 5, 2012*

A great day for birding in the Park today. A bit breezy from the north-east
made birding the interior more comfortable, but as we found out, the birds
were of like mind.

Many species of warbler have been reported from trails such as the Woodland
Nature Trail and Tilden Woods. Walking along the road to the Tip with my
group we had over 15 species of warbler, and I noted in the bird record
book that over twenty species of warbler have been reported. Good steady
birding.

Of note, at the Tip, a Hooded Warbler near the washrooms. South of the
washrooms, a Golden-winged Warbler and Blue-Winged Warbler. Several Northern
Parula were reported from the Tip. A few Red-headed Woodpeckers and a
single White-eyed Vireo were noted down there as well.

Just south of the Sparrow Field in the old tram loop area, a Hooded
Warblerwas located.

On Woodland Nature Trail and the parallel portion of the main road to the
Tip many sightings of Scarlet Tanager. Warblers included several Northern
Parula, Cape May, and Bay-breasted as well as many other species. A male
Merlin was seen along the road. A late Winter Wren was seen between posts 5
and 6. Flycatchers included Great Crested and Least.

Part of the Woodland Nature Trail, the Botham Loop, held a Hooded
Warbleramong many species of warbler.

Tilden Wood had similar species as the Woodland Nature Trail.

Reports from out of the Park include Wilson’s Phalarope among other common
shorebirds at Hillman’s Shorebird Habitat viewing area.

Good Birding,
