*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: Sunday May 6, 2012*

Another lovely day of birding at Point Pelee National Park. Winds
continued from the northeast and the interior areas of the park were the
most productive.

The newly cleared Sparrow Field was the hotspot at the Tip this morning,
with lots of great sightings including, Summer Tanager (female),
Blue-winged Warbler, Golden-winged Warbler and Cerulean Warbler. The
Cerulean was reported to be singing up a storm. Other reports from the
Tip included an Eared Grebe and a Clay-colored Sparrow in the open area
beside the solar panels.

Many people chose to walk from the Tip back to the Visitor Centre and were
treated with some nice warblers. In the Post Woods (between Sparrow Field
and the Woodland Nature Trail) Canada and Mourning Warbler were reported.
Along the West Beach Footpath, another Mourning Warbler was spotted.

Woodland Nature also had several warbler species of note, including
Louisiana Waterthrush, Golden-winged and Cerulean Warblers.

From Tildens the roosting red phased Eastern Screech Owl that was found
yesterday, was again roosting in the trees, near the southernmost bench on
the trail. Further north in Tildens, a second red phased Screech was
found in a cedar tree, being harassed by warblers. A Tufted Titmouse was
also noted in Tildens this morning.

The most exciting bird found this morning was a Lark Sparrow at the south
of end of the Northwest Beach parking lot. It was reported a little later
from Blue Heron.

Reports from out of the Park, yesterday include Wilson’s Phalarope and
Long-billed Dowitcher among other common shorebirds at Hillman’s Shorebird
Habitat viewing area.

Good Birding,
