Hey Birders, Another nice day here on the island. Things were again a little slow (north winds), but with some nice birds. The weekend looks like it may bring another push of new migrants so make sure you're out for Saturday!
Highlights: Purple Sandpiper - 1 adult coming into alternate plumage at Fish Point this afternoon. See some pics and more info at Mikes blog - http://mikeburrell.blogspot.ca/2012/05/back-to-island.html Willet - 1 bird was reported from yesterday at Sheridan's Point Yellow-breasted Chat - no reports today of the male along the West Shore (though it is likely still there) Prothonotary Warbler - 1 male (same) at Fish Point. It seemed like shorebirds were moving abit (and have been since the 8th), the Purple Sandpiper was with a large mixed flock of Black-bellied Plovers, Dunlin and a few Ruddy Turnstones (FOY). Other interesting birds seen today included the season's first Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and a smattering of warblers, including Blackpoll, Orange-crowned's and several of both Cape May and Bay-breated.
