A Lark Sparrow was observed at Long Point Provincial Park ("new park") this
morning at 8:10am. The bird was observed by Kathryn Boothby and me for 5
minutes on mowed grass in the trailer parking area opposite the boat launch.
After two vehicles passed, the bird flew toward Long Point Bay and possibly
east toward the "duck ponds." Two sightings were reported by Stu Mackenzie
in his May 10, 2012 Long Point Update so this could be one of those, or
perhaps a new recruit. Many birders were in the park and in Long Point Bird
Observatory's Old Cut Banding Station area so it may be re-found, although
attempts to locate it were not immediately successful.

To reach Long Point Provincial Park, follow Highway 59 south to its terminus
at Long Point on Lake Erie. Once across the Long Point Causeway, follow the
road left (east) as it becomes Erie Boulevard. The boat launch area is
located about 400 metres east of the park entrance gate. Note, the park
began its summer operating season this weekend so entrance fees apply if
entering the day use or camping areas by vehicle. Access by foot is also
possible from alternate parking areas outside the park (signage on Long
Point).
