Claire Gibson and I birded Thickson woods and the wetlands to the east
this afternoon from 1:45 to 4:30. We searched in vain for the Worm-
eating Warbler but saw 13 species including one Canada Warbler. The
male Hooded Warbler was seen in dense stand of balsam popular growing
in the flooded area just east of the entrance gate. We got all 5 five
of the expected thrushes, including two Gray-cheeked. The marsh to
west had one Northern Shoveler (male), a pair of Blue-winged Teal, 8
Lesser Yellowlegs, 10 Semipalmated Sandpiper and 4 Least Sandpipers.
Directions: Thickson Woods is located close to the south end of
Thickson Road, which runs off the QEW in western Oshawa. You can
legally park on Thickson Road.
