A great morning in the park, with an impressive fall-lout of warblers
following a series of light showers starting at 7:30 a.m.. These are
the totals: Yellow-rumped: 104; Chestnut-sided: 38; Magnolia &
American Redstart: 30; Tennessee: 26; Black-throated Blue: 20; Black-
throated Green: 11; Blackburnian: 10; Black-and-white: 9; Yellow &
Palm: 6; Ovenbird & Common Yellowthroat: 4; Bay-breasted: 3: Orange-
crowned: 2; singles of Blue-winged; Mourning; Pine, Wilson's,
Blackpoll & Northern Waterthrush. I estimate that only 25% of warblers
seen were identified due to cloudy conditions and flat light during
first two hours searching. The largest species diversity by far was
in the big bowl and I had 18 species there after the first hour.
Another big highlight was a Black-billed Cuckoo which perched in open
view on a branch about 16 feet off the ground for about 10 minutes.
Steve Garrett and David Pryor also lead the search to identify these
warblers under less than ideal conditions.
Directions: the park is located of the south end of KIpling at
Lakeshore Boulevard in Etobicoke. If the parking lot is full at south
end of Colonel Samuel Smith Drive, free parking is available on 13th
street which runs down the entire east side of Humber College Campus
and Colonel Samuel Smith Park.
