Thanks for checking, John. I was there for 5 minutes on my way to work this morning and wondered about the eyeline on this bird but got talking with Peter Wukasch and another chap, both refering to it as the Marbled so I went with the flow the took off for Newmarket as I was running late. Craig Corcoran of \Nobleton emailed me at lunch to say his MIL thought the bird was Hudsonian. Went there ASAP after work and the Hudsonian markings were plain as day due to a GBH that made the bird fly. Ron

When a GB heron flew into the pond the godwit flushed and the black-and-white tail markings were easy to see - a white wing line in the black wings was evident too. The bird is quite plain looking and just beginning to molt into breeding plumage, but some brick red feathering is present on the breast and the rump is white. Also present was a single white-rumped sandpiper as well as several semipalmated plovers, several least sandpipers and a couple dunlin. Go west of Hwy. 400 to the intersection of Hwy 9 and 27. Turn right and drive up the hill Look on the left before you get to the large white "barn". A larger pond is just north of the "Godwit" pond. This pond should be called "Donkey Ponds North".
