Inadvertantly, the town of Bradford has created a great mini-habitat for
shorebirds at a newly created "park" that seems to be constantly flooded. Today
there are shorebirds of eight species frequenting the mudfalts there. Greater
and Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral, Least. and Spotted Sandpipers, Dunlin,
Senipalmated Plover, and Killdeer are hanging out there, and last year
Solitary, Baird's, and Stilt Sandpipers and Black-bellied Plover were also
there. I would not be surprised if phalaropes might show up there.
Go north on Hwy. 400 to County Rd. 88 and head east to the lights at the 10th
SR. Turn left and go to the 8th Line across from the Presbyterian Church. Turn
right and continue on past the housing development on your left. There as a
larger pond and then the shallow water flats.
You will find two places to pull over on the left. One at the larger pond and
one on front of the bridge.
