*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: May 19, 2012*

It’s been a great day for birding at Point Pelee National Park so far this
morning.

The main highlight has been the CALIFORNIA GULL (1st cycle) at the Tip.
This bird was originally found yesterday, and re-found this morning. A
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (1st cycle) was also seen there this morning.

An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was heard (and recorded) singing in Tilden’s Woods,
next to the “red-morph” EASTERN SCREECH-OWL – which has been perching daily
on the same branch for over 2 weeks.

BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS were often heard, rarely seen, throughout the
park. VEERYs,
WOOD, SWAINSON’s, and GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH are all being seen.

Warblers have been numerous in Tildens Wood’s and along Schusters Trail
with at least 20 species recorded so far. Several CANADA, and MOURNING
Warblers being the highlights. 2 WILSON’s WARBLERS were seen beside the
Visitors Center this morning. TENNESSEE, BLACKBURNIAN, BAY-BREASTED,
BLACKPOLL and BLACK-THROATED GREEN Warblers are also commonly heard. A
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was heard singing this morning as well.

A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was seen just North of the Sparrow field, while the
2 WHITE-EYED VIREOS are still being seen on territory just south of the
Sparrow field.

A new PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was discovered at the Tip this morning, while
the 2 regulars are being seen in Woodland Nature Trail.

4 RUDDY TURNSTONES were seen at the Tip as well.

The GREAT-HORNED OWLS are still being seen near their nest at the North end
of the park.

Outside of the Park, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen at Hillman Marsh
(just North of the park) this morning. Late yesterday, a 3rd-cycle LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Wheatley harbour.

Birders and photographers are reminded that they are NOT to use electronic
playback devices and ‘pishing’ is strongly discouraged to attract birds in
the park. We appreciate your cooperation. If you encounter problems in
this regard, please contact park staff, and wardens will be notified.

Good Birding,
