Hi Ontbirders, My first Arctic Tern of the season showed up today during the intense thunderstorm activity this afternoon. I went down to the river at 4:30pm during the storm and was not disappointed. The Arctic Tern was there for about 10 minutes until the rain let up and then it appeared to continue on with its migration. There were a few Common Terns around as usual, and about 24 Bonaparte's Gulls and a small flock of Black-bellied Plovers that came down during the storm.
To get there, get onto Britannia Road (near the intersection of Carling and Richmond). Follow this to the end and turn right on Cassel's Street. Go to the end and park in the little gravel lot near the filtration plant. The terns are usually near the base of the rapids but today the Arctic landed with a Common on a little rock island to the right as you are standing on the shore.
