Tim McCarthy and I spent 4.5 hours on site and recorded 30 Whimbrels
(7 at 10:00 am and 25 at 2:00 pm); the latter flock was spotted by
David Hallett. Other migrant shorebirds included 5 White-rumped
Sandpipers, 20 Semipalmated Sandpipers and 4 Dunlin: all of these were
feed on beaches on sloping boulder walls. This was the final day the
Whimbrel watch.
We wish to thank all those who came out to the park and helped us with
the spotting and counting flocks. Projects like this depend on a long
list of people who made this years count a success story:final total =
4693 in 72 groups. Flocks ranged in size from 1 to 250 with the median
flock size of 50, considerably higher than in the past three years of
counts.
Location: The park is located at the end of Kipling and south of
Lakeshore Boulevar: at the end of Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive.
