It is with deep sadness that I need to let the birding community know that Toronto resident and long time TOC member Ed Johns passed away early this morning at the Scarborough General Hospital. While Ed had been in poor health for many years he showed great courage in his fight with a difficult health issue.
Birding was his passion with warblers and shorebirds his favourite birds. Ed was not hesitant to voice his thoughts and opinions on those who chose to disturb nature and was for many years a board member of the Federation of Ontario Naturalists now Ontario Nature. He loved photography and won many awards for his bird and flower images as a member of the Toronto Camera Club. Ed’s business career with Mutual Life spanned some 40 years where he devoted his time and expertise in helping his many clients achieve their insurance and investment goals. Ed leaves his wife Jean and their three sons David, Glenn and Gerald, and six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending, and cards of condolences can be sent to Jean at 9 Roseglor Crescent, Scarborough, ON. M1P 3T5. Kayo Kayo Roy 13 Kinsman Court. Fonthill, ON.
