While conducting our part of the Durham Summer Bird Count, Terrie Smith and I found a leucistic Red-tailed Hawk. This was a spectacular bird that was essentially almost entirely snow white. The only colour we could detect was a darkening in some of the outer primaries, which I believe negates its being an albino. The leg colour was bright yellow and the ceres dark. There was no hint of any colour anywhere else on the bird.
The bird was seen both yesterday and today on High Point Road just east of Ashburn Road in Scugog Twp.
