We spent a bit of time up on the Alvar this morning and found lots of song
including a great male Yellow-throated Vireo along Cty Rd 35, a Golden-winged
Warbler near the Sedge Wren Marsh, lost of Black-billed Cuckoos and one
Yellow-billed, many Upland Sandpipers, a family of bluebirds, two Virginia
Rails walking on Wylie Rd near MacNamee (!!), two Clay-colored Sparrows, over a
dozen Grasshopper Sparrows and a wonderful Adult Northern Goshawk north of the
Sedge Wren Marsh. We didn't look for shrikes so we missed them, but we did look
for Sedge Wrens and we missed them as well - this echoes the experience of
other observers this year. Several Marsh Wrens had replaced them at the "Sedge
Wren Marsh".

All the other expect birds were in great song until the heat hit!
