Good evening, folks:
Although overall numbers of shorebirds were greatly reduced this evening at
the Exeter lagoons, there were still a few good birding treats. In the
second cell, in the north east quadrant, were two juvenile Red-Necked
Phalaropes hanging together. In the first cell, was a Great Egret along with
the usual 20 or so Great Blue Herons.
Just a note that the second cell WAS in great condition for shorebirds.
Unfortunately it is being refilled and only about 10% of the cell is still
conducive for shorebirds.
Exeter lagoons are accessible to the public, assuming you are in possession
of a free pass, which can be obtained in person, from the town office. The
lagoons are entered by driving west out of town on 83 highway, and then
south on Airport Line (1st concession west). Turn left (east) on the first
gravel road and park on the shoulder, without blocking the entrance to
either the lagoons or the sheep 'pasture' gate. Walk up the dike road past
the "No Trespassing" sign.
