Hi all,
I just came back from Presqu'ile and was told by Ron Pittaway that the
Kingbird has not been seen since about 1030 (unless it has returned in
the last 20 minutes). It may still be somewhere nearby so it is worth
searching nearby areas and if anyone relocates it please post the new
information as soon as possible.
The bird has been feeding almost non stop since it was first found and
previously hadn't strayed more than 150 meters from where first found
so it may have recharged enough to move on, but it could easily be a
kilometer away as well.
Sorry for the bad news; I hope someone can relocate this bird or maybe
it will come back later today (it went quiet for a while yesterday
afternoon).
Cheers,
Doug McRae
Presqu'ile is south of Brighton on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
The park is well signed from Hwy 401. Because Bayshore Road is narrow
with few good parking spots, please access it from Presqu'ile
Provincial Park at the Calf Pasture day use area. Take the park road
(instead of bayshore) and follow it; when it becomes a one way loop,
follow it around past the lighthouse and in about 3 km, go right on
Atkins Lane to the Calf Pasture Day Use parking area. When you go
through the underpass, the bird is roughly 100m E of this point or
150m from the parking lot. You can pick up a park newspaper at the
gate which has a map.
