A special thanks to Donny Moore who looking after the birds way out to the north while I looked up. A couple from Toronto made their annual pilgrimage, but they had to forego wine-tasting this year as they are soon to be parents. The Ogglesby's from London were also back for a visit. Weather: A blustery day with winds out of the north-west shifting to west generally in the 15km/hr range with gusts up to 30km/hr. Sunnier than predicted with rain only during the first half hour of the count. Raptor Observations: 149 birds of 7 species. The best birds of the day were two juvenile Peregrines that both came in right over the tower giving everyone great looks. While most Broad-winged Hawks were flying very high one also came in just over the heads of the people on the tower, giving most of them their first really good look at at Broad-wing. Non-raptor Observations: The sky was full of Swallows all day including: Tree, Barn, Northern-roughwing and Purple Martins. Other non-raptors of interest were 2 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that did not seem to be bothered at all by the wind; 14 Cedar Waxwings; 26 American Goldfinch; and a lone Greater Yellowlegs. Predictions: Variable cloudiness with a potential for rain in the afternoon. Predicted winds out of the north at 5 - 10 km/hr should bring in some raptors before the rain. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
