I kayaked at Hillman Marsh Conservation Area this afternoon and managed to locate the American Avocet reported yesterday by Andrew Keaveney, same place - south of the Couture dyke, in the main marsh. Hillman allows hunting Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat; hiking is possible all day on Tues, Thurs & Sun. Water levels are low here so there is plenty of good shoreline mudflat available and common shorebirds are moving through. Chip W - FYI I observed 29 Great Egrets and 44 Great Blue Herons through-out the marsh, none tagged. Four different Osprey as well.
