A big thank you to those who did. Weather: Cool in the morning, the sun was out in full force by midday. Very few clouds were visible at any point. The wind was moderate and out of the northwest at first and then strengthened and shifted to the east. Raptor Observations: Some small groups of broadwings pushed through late when the wind shifted. Observers who moved down to Point Mouillee around noon reported that several thousand crossed to the south of us earlier in the day. Non-raptor Observations: Palm, Cape May, Nashville and Blackpoll warblers were seen in the trees around the count site. Five Horned Grebes were foraging in the channel for a second straight day. Two Black Crowned Night Herons, a Lesser Yellowlegs and a Killdeer flew by in the early morning. Predictions: Sunny and clear with temperatures in the 70s and light wind out of the southwest. Maybe a southward wind shift will push a few more kettles our way. Come on out to the park and join us for the second day of Hawk Fest 2012 to see if it does. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
