September 27, a varied list from the seldom reported Hanging Bog WMA in the Allegany County Town of New Hudson, included NORTHERN PINTAIL, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKER, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, RED-BR. NUTHATCH, GOLDEN-CR. KINGLET, RUBY-CR. KINGLET, BL.- THR. GREEN WARB., PINE WARBLER, WHITE-THR. SPARROW and RUSTY BLACKBIRD. 52 species at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo on the 30th included RUDDY DUCK, 9 GREAT EGRETS, 7 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, LEAST SANDPIPER, YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKER, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, WINTER WREN, CAROLINA WREN, numerous GOLDEN-CR. KINGLET and RUBY-CR. KINGLET, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 24 GRAY CATBIRDS, NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and nine warbler species - BL. AND W. WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, AMERICAN REDSTART, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, YELLOW-R. WARBLER and BL.-THR. GREEN WARB. GRAY- CHEEKED THRUSH also reports at Forest Lawn in Buffalo with six warbler species, including BLACK-THR. BLUE WARBLER and BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER. October 3, just three shorebird species, KILLDEER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, at the Modern Wetlands on Porter Center Road in Lewiston, with 500 COMMON GRACKLES, numbers of RED-W. BLACKBIRDS and 40 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. Also reported this week - A roost of 97 GREAT EGRETS in the Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Area at the north end of Windmill Marsh. GREAT EGRETS on the upper Niagara River appear to be down to single numbers. Both RED-BR. MERGANSER and PIED-BILLED GREBE were noted arriving on the upper Niagara River at Beaver Island State Park. On Grand Island, both GREAT HORNED OWL and EASTERN SCREECH-OWL were heard, 20 AMERICAN PIPITS on the West River Parkway, and DARK-EYED JUNCO at a feeder. And, in a Hamburg yard, RED-BR.
