Total observation time: 10 hours
Official Counter: Dave Brown
Observers: Chris Burris, Derek Lyon, Jennifer Lyon, Mark Cunningham,

Visitors:
A few visitors today including Jen, Bethany and Keith (Oshawa), Alice and
Mas (Burlington) and Brian Thompson (London). Thanks to everyone that
helped me out today ...Jen and Derek, Chris B., Mark C, Mary C. and Ronnie
G.
Weather:
The morning started out overcast and cold with initial temp of 5C....then
climbing to a high of 10C. The winds were non-existent to start the day and
stayed that way for the first three hours. Finally, around 9:00 am the wind
picked up slightly from the NNW...then increased again around noon from the
NW....then eventually backed round to the W which seemed to halt the
flight.
Raptor Observations:
It was a weird flight today with most of the count of 760 birds made up of
TVs (537) and Sharpies (157)....and a smattering of other species...Osprey
(4), Bald Eagle (11) wih several providing nice low views, N. Harriers
(12), Cooper's Hawks (7), Kestrels (26) and Merlin (2).
Interestingly, today we had a single representative of each of our buteo
species...Redtail, Broadwing, Red-shoulder (a beautiful adult that appeared
right out in front of us and then soared upwards right above us) and the
season's first Roughleg.
Non-raptor Observations:
There was somewhat of a minor fallout of passerines this morning with birds
quite active for most of the morning. Species observed included several
warblers...Magnolia, Nashville, Tennessee, Orange-crowned, Blackpoll,
Bay-breasted, Palm, Black-throated Green, N. Parula and many
Yellow-rumps...3 vireo species Red-eyed, Blue-headed and Philadelphia...6
species of woodpecker, Red-bellied, Red-headed (adult), Hairy, Downy.
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and N. FlickerE...also E. Bluebirds, Brown
Creeper, both Ruby and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Brown Thrasher, Gray
Catbird...several sparrow species with Song, Chipping, White-throated,
White-crowned and Vesper...House and Winter Wrens...and both Nuthatches.
Passing flocks included Am. Goldfinch, Blue Jays and various blackbird
species including a small flcok of Rusty Blackbirds. There were also a
couple of Monarchs spotted today and a Buckeye.
