While out surveying a property in Concord today, a colleague of mine and I
flushed a Barred Owl. When we first saw it, we only caught a glimpse of it
flying away. Not expecting a Barred Owl at all, I had assumed that it must of
been a Great Horned Owl. Shortly after our first encounter, we re-found it and
were very surprised to see it was a Barred Owl. It appeared quite active and
also let us approach relatively close. Might this be a harbinger of others
appearing in southern Ontario this winter? Only time will tell. Nevertheless a
surprising encounter indeed.

Directions: Because this is an owl and I don't want to be the source of others
harassing it, all I will say is that it was very close to the West Don River.

Good birding,
