This afternoon near Presqu'ile, a probable Hudsonian Godwit was feeding at the
back of Presqu'ile Bay in the village of Gosport. With it were 4 Greater, 3
Lesser Yellowlegs, and large numbers of Dunlin and Pectoral Sandpipers. The
Godwit was some distance away but looked like an adult Hudsonian in
non-breeding plumage, except that it appeared to have 3 or 4 black bars in the
tail feathers, which would make it a Bar-tailed Godwit. It also did not look as
tall as most "HudGods" I have previously seen. I have some long-range
digiscoped photos to peruse.Off Gull Island in Presqu'ile Provincial Park this
a.m. were 1 Baird's Sandpiper, 3 White-rumped Sandpipers, a few Dunlin, 2
flocks of Sanderling, many American Pipits, Horned Larks and 3 Lapland
Longspurs. Directions : From # 401, go south to Brighton on # 30, which becomes
George St. At traffic lights in town, go straight through ( do not turn right
towards Presqu'ile Prov. Pk.). When you reach the Brighton Constructed Wetlad,
turn right onto Harbour St. Then turn left onto Baldwin which goes into
Gosport. One street before the Marina, turn left onto Price St. Near the end is
the Presqu'ile Yacht Club. Park there and check the bay to your left. For
Presqu'ile Prov. Pk., follow signs after turning right at traffic lights in
Brighton. ***Be aware that birders cannot go on Gull Island on Friday or
Saturday due to duck hunting. You needed rubber boots today to access Gull Isl.
