>From 11:30am until noon today my friend and I watched a group American
>Widgeons (about 10-15) and Northern Pintails (9) feeding and resting in the
>first pond of the area between Lock 1 and Jones Beach Port Dalhousie/St.
>Catharines. Viewing was best this morning from the west side of the pond.

Take the QEW to exit 44 - Niagara Street. Go north on Niagara
to Lakeshore. Turn right on Lakeshore (currently some construction underway)
and cross the canal. Turn left at
Seaway Haulage Road and stay on this road to the left as it goes along the edge
of the
canal until you reach a gate; a parking area is along the road. The walk to the
pond
along a hard-packed trail is about a km to the east side trail viewing area, a
bit
further on the hard-packed trail if you go to the west trail side of the pond.
