Weather: The sky cleared quickly after a wet and overcast start, leaving us with nothing but blue for the rest of the day. Temperatures were mostly in the 70s. The wind was light to moderate and out of the south and southeast. Raptor Observations: Not huge numbers but some good variety today highlighted by a couple young Golden Eagles, a dark morph Rough-legged Hawk and our fourth Northern Goshawk of the season. Raptors again rode the south wind and were crossing well to our north. Non-raptor Observations: Red-winged Blackbirds (600+), Blue Jays (200+) and American Crows (1100+) were moving, as were American Robins (20+). Of particular note was a good flight of late October Monarchs (60+). Predictions: It's going to be a lot like today except higher temperatures and stronger south wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
