Total observation time: 4 hours

Official Counter: Jim Dunn

Observers: Mary Carnahan

Visitors:
Thanks to Mary and Jim for getting down to the hawkwatch today and getting
the count submitted.

Weather:
Winds were again unfavourable...light from the ESE and then SE...with a
temp to a high of 16C...and some cloud cover.

Raptor Observations:
It's like an instant replay...almost the same kind of flight again today
with a total of 367...mostly TVs (278) and Redtails (72)...and smaller
numbers of other species...Sharpies (5), Cooper's (2), Red-shoulders and
the real highlight of the day...a single Golden Eagle.

Non-raptor Observations:
Non-raptor observations for today are mainly from the B&B and the corner of
Fairview & Roberts Line, as we followed the raptor flight path. Just after
lunch this observer managed to zip south to the Cliff for a brief walk, but
not many species were out and about at that time. The farther south we
went, the hazier the sky was and right near the Cliff was very damp and
chilly while the rest of the region seemed bright and very balmy for this
time of year. Nevertheless, about 3 dozen Canada Geese were found loafing
on the Hawk Cliff beach, and numerous Song and White-throated Sparrows plus
a few Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, American Robins and 2
Cedar Waxwings were seen in the bushes just south of the parking area at
the bottom of Hawk Cliff Rd. Ring-billed Gulls were seen circling above.
Up and down HC Rd was pretty quiet, and most of the leaves are now lying on
the ground. Some Blue Jays and Crows were seen (and heard!) and towards
the north end of HC Rd, some Golden-crowned Kinglets were found. As well
there were the usual Chickadees and Goldfinches, but in very small numbers
at that time of day.

Earlier at Roberts Line, there were flocks of Pipits, Horned Larks, and
the local Eastern Bluebirds in the fields and overhead. As well, we had a
Kingfisher fly by, Killdeer, lots of Starlings, Mourning Doves and a couple
of Rock Pigeons and a small flock of Pine Siskins later on at the B&B.

In the insect department. we had Common Buckeyes at all of our locations
today for a total of 6, plus 3 Mourning Cloaks spotted during the HC Rd
walk, an eastern Comma and several Orange Sulphurs.
