Dear Ontbirders! Woohoo!
I was out running through the woods and heard a completely unfamiliar sound overhead at 3:30 this afternoon, Friday October 26th. I looked up and saw a flock of about 30 small geese flying low and fast towards Willow Creek/Little Lake. I was approximately 1 km from the Willow Creek outflow from Little Lake. Their flight was unfamiliar, too, with fast wingbeats. I immediately checked my Android version of Audubon Birds, well not quite immediately as it crashed, so I had to wait for it to re-load, and the recording of the distinctive flight calls of a flock of Brants perfectly matched what I had just heard. Awesome! I listened to Cackling Geese just to compare but they weren't even close. I think it might be worth a gander around Kempenfelt Bay or Cook's Bay early Saturday morning. Perhaps they'll already be to Lake Ontario at the speed they were flying ... Good luck!
