Found about 11:35a.m. Scoped at 60x off of tall bluffs between east end of Oshawa Harbour (east pier) and west end of Oshawa 2nd Marsh. Associating with a half dozen Common Loons for close comparison. This will not be an easy bird to refind but yesterday a similar bird was seen from the end of the Oshawa Harbour pier.
Bird clearly smaller with paler brown-gray upper side to head/Neal, clearly cut off from under side of same areas. Bill noticeably smaller. No waviness to brown on neck as in commons and they were all much darker brown headed. Chin strap could not be determined at the distance viewed... perhaps 500m or farther? I was able to call on my gf Sarah to get some long looks do that I wasn't the only one to view it. If going to look dress appropriately and bring very good scope! Directions: access to area is from trail system at corner of Harbour Rd. and Farewell St. in Oshawa. After a few hundred meters walking east, turn south and cut across fields till reaching the lake. Also present: Horned Grebes, Evening Grosbeaks, Greater Yellowlegs.
