Greetings birders thought I would chime in with an update form the north. We
have been seeing lots of winter finches including white winged crossbills and
lots of scattered flocks of common redpolls a well as pine siskin and pine and
evening grosbeaks. Evenings are more numerous than pines with only a couple of
sights of pines so far. perhaps the big news story for us recently was the
sighting of possibly two different female cardinals which is an uncommon bird
this far north. The cardinals were seen in Englehart one in town one north of
town. Lev Frid was the first to note the white winged crossbills when he was
here 2 weeks ago. He also noted quite a few boreal chickadees in the area. SO I
would suggest southern birder stock up on nyjer seed as the redpolls are on
their way south.
