At 9:00 a.m. I had a single swallow with a buffy rump patch by the lake at the end of Point Petre Road. I observed it for about two minutes but it was hard to follow in the wind and the lighting wasn't good enough to pick out other field marks. It flew off to the west twice and returned, but not after the third time. Lots of raptors today. 1 GOLDEN EAGLE, 1 BALD EAGLE (Black River), 30 RED-TAILED HAWKS, 2 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 100 TURKEY VULTURES, 2 MERLIN, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL and 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK (Waupoos). Also, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 11 COMMON RAVENS, 15 SNOW BUNTINGS, 1 EASTERN PHOEBE and 200 PINE SISKINS. Lots of gull action off Point Petre but much too far away.
Cheers Bruce Directions: From Picton in Prince Edward County follow Cty. Rd. 10 through Cherry Valley to Point Petre Rd. Drive south to the very end. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
