Greetings all,
It looks like we have a very pleasant weather day for the Cobourg-
Presqu'ile trip that I will be leading on behalf of Ian Shanahan
tomorrow. Ian is doing field work in Costa Rica but still wishes he
could be back here for the trip (or so he says; we did discuss
combining day lists to boost the species total!).
We will be meeting at Cobourg Harbour at 8:30 a.m. The best place to
meet is the parking area on the west side of the Harbour, near where
the hauled-up sailboat masts can be seen. The best way to reach the
Harbour from Hwy 401 is to take the eastern-most of the two exits for
Cobourg and follow this street (Division) all the way south to the
Lake. This will bring you to the east side of the harbour so just work
your way west along the front road and you will see the parking area
on the west side. We will do some birding here then head east to
Presqu'ile for the rest of the day. Due to the very low water level
of Lake Ontario this year, you do not need rubber boots to go to Gull
Island, although we will likely be walking on some algae covered flats
so use your preferred footwear. Although the high is predicted to be
about 14C, it may still be cool by the Lake so bring extra clothes
just in case.
Cheers,
Doug McRae
