Today I encounter a flock of approximately 150 Common Redpolls on Sideroad 10, approx 5k SE of Elmire (near Ponsonby). While scanning for possible Hoaries, one bird popped owing to its nearly pure white nape and neck sides. Compare this bird:
http://timbirds.info/communityserver/forums/t/708.aspx None of the forward facial markings were faded, and no other plumage or structural characteristics were suggestive of Hoary Redpoll. Thus, the bird appeared to be a Common Redpoll with partial (intriguing) leucism.
