No hawks had flown during their short stay, although one of the resident Bald Eagles was up and flying. Weather: Another bright sunny day with temperatures from 3.6C - 5.9C. The winds were out of the south-west during the whole count period in the 8 - 10 km/hr range. Raptor Observations: One bird!! A Cooper's Hawk at 11:31. Non-raptor Observations: Bonaparte's Gull - 9 Eurasian Starling - 5 American Tree Sparrow - 6 Fox Sparrow - 1 American Goldfinch - 41 It was quiet a shock when a 1st winter male Harlequin Duck came in from the east and landed in the marsh immediately to the north of the tower. By the time I ran down the tower to get my camera out of my truck the Harlequin had lifted and flown towards the lake. Predictions: This last day of the 2012 raptor migration season will likely end on a wimper with winds out of the East at 15 - 20 km/hr, temperatures from 4 - 8C, cloudy with a 40% chance of rain. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
