Greetings Ontbirders,

A large group of birders visited Gull Island at Presqu'ile Provincial Park this morning and were rewarded with four individual shorebirds representing four species - they were Purple, White-rumped, Dunlin and Sanderling. The Sanderling was seen only on the shoal at the SE corner of the island while the other three were in a group and literally circled the island over a two hour period. Not a bad start to winter birding.

Also on the island were 3 Snowy Owls, remains of a Barred Owl (possibly the one seen several days ago by Andrea Kingsley and Bill Gilmour), 1 Northern Harrier, 12 Bonaparte's Gull, hundreds of Long- tailed Ducks, a Horned Grebe, 100+ Snow Buntings and 2 Lapland Longspur.

Cheers,

Doug McRae

Directions: Presqu'ile is south of Brighton, Ontario on the north shore of Lake Ontario. It is well signed from either Hwy 401 or Hwy 2.
